RE: This is a deal breaker. No one wants to look at a bunch of voided transactions. MS should know the difference between a data entry mistake and an accounting transaction that needs to be voided.

Maybe if you're a solo operation this seems unreasonable to you, but to ME .... well lets just say i don't want ANY of my employees to be able to make ANY kind of transaction disappear. If they screw up VOID it. An audit trail is absolutely necessary if you want to know where ALL of your money is going. Think security, and keep your business from being the victim of dishonest employees.

Good point. If they cut the fat... A leaner infrastructure might mean less head-butting, more streamlined efficiency, and an environment that much more dedicated to achieving end results for clients.

Web 2.0 Expo... It's a 4-5 day event. I just returned from my 1-day attendance to the expo hall. I'm a thrifty fellow, so no $3K outlay for attending speaking events, etc. The expo hall was good, full of energy and juicy tech chat.... eBay, being a premier sponsor, had its 360 degree booth right near the main entrance, so I had no trouble finding it... It was good to meet with some eBay Dev folks and see some faces behind the blog/forum posts. Revelation: they're human too! :) They seemed to attract lots of interest from developer-attendees and were perpetually busy chatting with passer-bys. I walked away with a raffle entry for a Wii and a generous 1GB eBay-embossed flash drive. The beer provided at the event is transient, but flash drives offer functionality for years to come. ;)

Well, we'll just have to build a better watch counter!

I had a feeling eBay had a watch counter in the works based on their reaction at my one-on-one technical session at the Dev Conf.

The new view-item page is now live at sandbox.ebay.com. Look what I found in the source:

'You’re the first person to watch this item. Don’t let it get away!'

'person is watching this item. Place a bid and improve your chances to buy this item.'

'people are watching this item. Place a bid and beat them to buy this item!'

I wonder what that's for? :)

Hi Jake,

Longer than 3-6 weeks (or never) for a response?

I think eBay's efficiency would increase if they cut 10%. Communication would improve, less decision makers, etc...

How is the Web2.0 Expo?

Well, I've had several occasions where it takes 3-6 weeks (or never) before I get a reply from eBay Customer Service, Trust & Safety, or ePN. Should there be mass layoffs, response delays could grow even longer.

Sellathon hit the sweet spot? I agree they entered the market at the right time, but they had to do their hit counter the hard way by tracking the hits and the referring URLs on their own servers. That's an expensive solution. Eventually they got tired and sold their small 3-4 person business to Auctiva.

Now that "round tripping" is prohibited, the clever 3rd party solutions like Sellathon will no longer be developed - except, of course for us 3 watch counter folks! :-)

I'm an optimist. The eBay ecosystem will morph into something really good. We'll be ready for it!
